Can't Sing Singers Helens's Story.... .focus()) Helen from the London Team Pictures Courtesy of BBC, Can't Singer SingersWe first met Helen when she auditioned for our very own Glamour Job TV Show Pilot... we were bowled over by her enthusiasm and energy and she got through to our finals in the TV Presenter Category. Imagine our delight when we were told she had been selected for the London Group in BBC Television's new TV show "Can't Sing Singer's" Here's how it happened:- How did you find out about the show?
I first saw the advert in a paper in
July, I had to sing a bit of a song on an answerphone, after a few
days I received a phone call from the production team asking for a
video to be sent to them with me singing a ballad and a dance type
song. I sang a Barry White number and the Weather Girls, after three
weeks I received a call to say that I had been whittled down to the
last 48 and they were holding an audition in London in August. They
were only looking for 12 people out of the 48. I was so excited when
I got the call, I could not wait for the day to arrive when I could
audition.
What was the audition like...were you nervous? It was a very hot day (7th August) I remembered the day so well as it was the day before my daughter's 21st birthday. I got to meet all the other contestants and it was a great atmosphere. I was excited all morning, not nervous at all. When I was called in I was faced with David and Carrie Grant and Daniel Thomas (who is our singing tutor). I sang Its Raining Men by the weather girls which I did and then they asked me to sing a few notes etc. We then had a brief chat about commitment, etc. They did not tell me on the day but said that they would call me in a few days. Those few days were weird as everytime the phone went I kept thinking it would be them telling me yes or no ! When did you get the call to say you had been selected? When I got the call I was in a bank drawing out my holiday money and the Denise (assistant producer) was really dragging the call out and I kept saying "am I in ? please say I am etc" She said that as I was in the bank she would call me back. Those few minutes seemed like hours ! I was just so excited to hear (would have been so disappointed if she had said no!). She eventually told me YES and I burst out crying. I was now out of the bank and in the streets and my fiancée Tom was with me and we were both jumping up and down with me crying my eyes out full of joy! I got on the phone and rang all my family and friends. What have the rehearsals been like?
Rehearsals have been a mixture of fun
and hard work. I never knew it was going to be so hard to try to
reach the right note. As for dancing, singing and holding a mic and
also singing in key I will never ever ever mock a singer who puts a
step wrong when dancing - it really really is hard to co-ordinate it
all. You really have to be dedicated and committed as it has been
hard but I am enjoying every single minute and the group are
fantastic. I have made some really lovely friends and most of us talk
every day or text each other. We really are a great "family". I know
that when this magic journey is all over I am going to miss meeting
them every week (sometimes twice and three times!). Is there any inside gossip?
Inside gossip? - you will have
to watch the show and see ...........let's just say that one of the
group is very "merry" and there's also one that the young girls will
just love !!! Make sure you
watch the show every week and let's give Helen all the support she
deserves... A great example of someone who has
followed her dream an never given up.....Well done Helen! |
