Retail Buyer - Job Description
A fashion retail buyer’s job is to purchase products and merchandise from wholesalers for resale in shops, warehouses and department stores. The merchandise purchased must meet the companies customers needs and maximise their profit. To do this the buyer must select the product type and quantity and check that it is the correct quality and price for the customers demands. A fashion buyer must make an analysis of sales figures, review stock levels, check what their competitors are buying and take part in promotions. Training & Qualifications There are various courses available in fashion buying at colleges and universities worldwide, although it is also possible if you show your flair for design to work your way up in a company to a career in buying. Personal Qualities A fashion buyer must be quick thinking, well organized, outgoing, have a good head for figures, a good knowledge of current fashion and be able to predict future trends.
