How long have you been doing the job?
10 Years.
Did you decide on your career path or did it all happen by accident?
I had always wanted to become a flight stewardess and planned right from the onset to pursue a flight orientated career. Having researched the available opportunities I applied to B'Cal because they had the youngest age range acceptance and had a first class reputation. Having met with great success over the years I decided not to continue to fly and hence looked for a position on the ground.
How did you get your "Glamour Job" ?
As I had always worked in the Airline Industry I was lucky enough to have contacts in the Airline industry so I was asked to apply for the lounge agent job. I went for an interview and was successful.
What does the job involve?
Meeting and greeting First Class and Business Class passengers and also Premier passengers which often involves meeting Celebrities and famous people in every walk of life. I can help them at every aspect of their journey with B.A and quite often have to deal with "domestic traumas".
Describe a typical day at work.
Arrive at work for a 7 hr shift. I usually work with one or more people and we greet people as they enter the Lounges and help with any enquiries they might have. Arrange for any special needs and ensure there journey goes without any problems.
What do you like most about the job?
I work with a great team of people who all have a good sense of humour (we need it!) and getting to meet some very interesting people.
What don’t you like about your job – if anything?
Sometimes Passengers can be rude and abusive and we have to take it on the chin.
During your teenage years did you have much vocational guidance from school, university, family or friends? What was your biggest influence?
My cousin was an airhostess and her enthusiasm for her job influenced me. Plus what a great way of seeing the world and enjoying new experiences.
If you took end of school examinations did you get exam results you were happy with from your education?
I left school aged 18.
Do you think that what you studied in school or in your further education was right for the career you are in now? Any regrets?
I am glad I had a broad education and passed 11 O levels and 2 A levels.
Have you taken further studies since leaving secondary or tertiary school. If yes, what did you study and why did you decide you needed more qualifications?
I B. Ed degree in PE and Geography.
What was your first job?
An Au Pair for an Italian Countess.
What has been your most bizarre or challenging job to date?
Working as a student in a Pie packing factory.
What is your ultimate goal.... is this it, or do you have a pinnacle you have yet to reach?
I am happy where I am for the present time - but who knows?
What are your top tips for personal success?
